Causes of roof and facade pollution

Whether it's industrial or natural pollution, you're dealing with it.

Whether it is a busy street or a bad location, the consequences of pollution are never good.

Being located in a wooded area is also a factor that contributes to a faster formation of moss on the roof.

In most cases we are talking about natural pollution. Roofs or facades facing east or west get less sunlight and have a greater chance of algae and moss growth.

A roof with a small slope will also dry less quickly and is somewhat more vulnerable than a steep roof.

The wind causes dust to form between the joints of the tiles or on the brickwork. This creates an ideal breeding ground for moss and algae. These living organisms cause a lot of damage to your roof in the long term, they grow and in turn retain more dust and water, which makes it worse and worse. This makes the tiles porous and in freezing weather the water present expands and causes even larger cracks and tears. In the long term, you also risk moisture damage in your home.

Consequences of facade and roof pollution:

Cracks and fissures in porous roof tiles, slates or corrugated iron, allowing moisture to enter.

Ugly, dirty facade or roof, with a shorter lifespan.

Clogged rain drain and dirty water in the rainwater tank…

Solution? Roof and facade cleaning:

An expert cleaning that will restore your roof or facade to perfect condition and keep it there for a long time.

Every cleaning is different, in case of heavy pollution a pre-treatment with an environmentally friendly product that loosens dirt, algae, moss is necessary. This is followed by the actual cleaning in which the spray pressure is adjusted to the surface. Concrete roof tiles are cleaned under high pressure. (Natural) slates are cleaned under low pressure because it is a softer material. For minor pollution cold water is sufficient, for stubborn dirt we work with heat.

The ideal combination of pressure and heat ensures powerful cleaning. The high temperature penetrates deep into all the nooks and crannies, killing a very large proportion of bacteria and micro-organisms. Cleaning with warm water is also ideal for reaching places that are normally difficult to clean. With heat cleaning, the dirt is removed by soaking. The heat removes all mould, bacteria and other dirt. The spray pressure is adjusted to the nature and condition of the facade materials. By applying heat cleaning, the dirt comes to the surface. After cleaning, we always place a moss killer, this is recommended annually. A coating with adapted paint or a post-treatment with water-repellent stone gel is also a possibility.
